New Archaeological Site at the Carmen Thyssen Museum Málaga: A Must-See Cultural Attraction

Descubre el nuevo yacimiento arqueológico del Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga: una escapada cultural perfecta

If you’re wondering what to see in Málaga on your next getaway, there’s a cultural highlight that is definitely worth discovering: the new archaeological site opened beneath the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga.

This space allows visitors to explore historical remains preserved beneath the museum building, offering a unique glimpse into the city’s past. It’s a perfect visit for those who enjoy discovering Málaga’s history beyond its beaches and famous landmarks.

Even better, you can take the opportunity to plan a cultural getaway while staying in the peaceful Pedregalejo neighborhood, at Hostal Moscatel, combining history, art, and the sea in a single trip.

A new space to understand Málaga’s history

Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga

On March 2, this new archaeological site was officially presented during a press conference attended by Baroness Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, along with the city’s mayor, Francisco de la Torre, and several cultural representatives and project technicians.

The opening of the site allows the archaeological heritage to be integrated directly into the museum experience. This means that a visit to the museum now offers not only its collection of 19th-century Spanish painting, but also a journey through the historical roots of the city.

For many visitors, it has already become one of the most interesting cultural experiences to enjoy in Málaga’s historic center.

How to visit the archaeological site

Access to the site is included with the museum’s general admission ticket, which allows visitors to explore both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.

Museum ticket prices:

  • General admission: €15

  • Reduced admission: €10

Due to the conservation requirements of the archaeological space, access is limited to groups of 20 people every 30 minutes, so visitors must select a time slot when purchasing their ticket.

A very attractive option for both travelers and locals:

Admission is free on Sundays from 4:00 PM onwards, while capacity control is maintained.
